  1. In flood events of hilly areas (e.g. Uttrakhand floods 2013) landslides cause devastation but drainage is not an issue. In flat lands (e.g. Kosi flood 2008) drainage of flood water is critical. Present Jhelum flood in Srinagar is unique in the sense that it is a flat land so close to hilly areas. Here topographical, geological and hydrological issues need to be addressed simultaneously.

  2. - When the population size has increased by leaps and bounds, humans are forced to usurp the places of other living things. In such a contingency, ecological balance and environmental stability are to be dealt with pragmatic approach. - It is unfortunate that the importance given to soil erosion control measures (especially in the hill areas) has become eroded after the 70s. Soil conservation schemes are to be revived with full vigor to get sustainable benefits with regard to flood control and environment. - Floodplains of all waterways should not be allowed for any kind of occupation.

Our Company Chahtech has the technologies and the know how to help India Government (or any country in the world) to avoid the negative effects of the 2 extremes of the climate: the Droughts and the Floods. Our technologies(Buried diffusers and draining floater) and our know how allows to store the excess of water , of the heavy rains, in the soil deep layers in of the fruit or forest trees plantations, or to inject this water in the ground water tables. If this is done we will avoid floods but we will also mitigate the seasonal or annual droughts (1 till 3 years continuous drought) . For any contact use our email: bachahbani@chahtech.com . 1. I do agree with Mr. Ashok that it is part of environment and the root cause is probably the man made interventions which are encroaching the nature and disturbing the local water Cycle. The promptness of the government machinery is truly doubtful, even though the army has played the tremendous role in Kasmir I really suspect about the preparedness of the local urban bodies to face such situations. At my residence in Pune we lost the culvert on adjacent Nala in recent rains but no any action is initiated by the local body even after communicating them the incidence immediately.
