This is only a confirmation that Govt.s despite legal empowerment have failed to enforce the laws that make dumping of pollutants into the river systems a legal offence. It is high time that a single Central Agency is formed to be responsible for affairs of all the natural Surface water bodies including River Systems in the country and its job should be only to be a minor equity player in PPP model where MNCs and Private Corporate in India take responsibility of D&B with O&M for all technological interventions for in-fluent waters into the Natural Water bodies/ River systems. YAMUNA has been allowed to be turned into a big Nullah and many other rivers shall also have the same fate if Centre Govt. does not wake up.
