Properly designed and constructed water courses (field channels) are a must for a successful irrigation system. Also the canals carrying water like minors, dis tributaries and main canals must be designed and constructed as per real field conditions and considering actual cropping pattern being adopted by farmers, not the idealistic cropping pattern prepared for obtaining maximum cost benefit ratio for approval of the project.
