Water Management Through Participatory Approach

Published on by

Water is a vital resource. Increasing water demand for various purposes can onlybe metthroughparticipatory approach because over exploitation of ground water has worsened the situation in urban as well as rural areas.

Recent report of central ground water board indicates that there is a need of participatory approach for management of water resources and renovation and conservation of traditional water bodies.

  1. I have a very different views on this. Every body is talking about conservation and availability of water resources. One of the major problem in India is alarming population for which we are creating concrete jungle. Second issue is Climate change. Conservation and availability of water is mostly dependent on this.

  2. The concept of Biological Remediation is the complete representation of the subject: participatory action. The wastewater revaluation PROJECT carrier applied for membership of the villagers who give their wastewater. they adhere to organic charter of water conservation in the current use of domestic needs by removing any use of chemicals. Draining the habitat excrement tank is free and in addition they receive a discount on Agricultural production PROJECT carrier. This is the principle of the carrot. This is also the same principle in the use of the method "Biological Fosse" lyseconcept for personal sanitation of a dwelling. People know that the process is -biologique-, but they are well aware that the remaining reject water used for watering the garden in which they take their food. So they do not utlisent household products containing hazardous chemicals microphones. The opposite of the principle of the drainage that disempowers people.

  3. Dear Sanjay Singh, Thank you very much for highliting the most important issues. Without participatory/group approach we can't conserve water as our future generation will face a big problem. Now a days any large to medium farmer can easily take permission from gram panchayet for a mini shallow tubewell. they pumping (not taking any authentic electricity connection) extra water for different types of crop. this individual approach is really hampering the ground water resources. Recently in my state, West Bengal in India World Bank funded Accelerated Development of Minor Irrigation Project is going on. There is a policy that firstly farmers have to form a "Water Users' Association" 7-9 members governing body, have by-laws and registered under WB Societies Registration Act. As a result the irrigation scheme, water conservation, net crop production all things are fulfilled. I think this type of innitiative (where the trained local people is truely involved) can conserve the water resoures. And the suitable idea should be channelized in proper way through 3 tiers Panchayeti raj system like PDS/rationing otherwise few project implementation in a scattered way would not able to bring good impact. Not only the farmers, urban, semi-urban and rural all have to take proper action.

  4. And interesting topic and one which Australia has grappled with in the the Murray-Darling Basin, a river basin with is home to more than 2 million people and provides drinking water to 3 million people. Our experience is that to secure access to water of a suitable quality for use by communities, industries and the environment it required a whole of governmnet and community commitment and involvement in planning over an extended period.

  5. Earlier govt. agencies used to construct water harvesting structures but the maintenance was not adequate. Now local beneficiaries are being involved to look after maintenance. Involve local people from the begining in the project, it is going to give you good result. There are methods by which you can estimate water availability during lean period. Conservation measure may be intro of micro irrigation if we are talking about agricultural irrigation.

  6. Dear sanjay singh, we can improve water resources by seawage treatment and effluent water treatment system. there is very much scope in both sector.
