Controlling solid waste in rivers and lakes

Published on by in Technology

We have been able to contain floating trash in flowing waters by our new design of floating trash barrier.

This innovative design is a floating barrier anchored to the bottom of the water body. The pilot project successfully contained trash in a lake storm water after very strong water flow past the barrier during heavy rains.

The trash slides to the sides from where it is mechanically or manually removed by regular municipal channels. While this innovation does not do anything about dissolved pollutants, it helps remove the floating trash and is useful for containing hyacinth, floating debris, trash etc. http://www.alphamers.com

The floating trash barrier on left, brings trash to riverbank for easy removal and waters downstream (right of image) looks cleaner.
