Five steps to convert paper maps to digitized data driven interactive spatial application

In recent years "RTM", "EWS", and "IOT" have become widely used keywords in the Water Industry. The primary steps of learning or developing IOT based EWS or RTMs is your knowledge about GIS. In GIS the first step of learning is how to digitize paper maps. This article will try to familiarize yourself with the basic concepts of converting paper maps into digital maps.

Any paper maps can be converted into the digitized data-driven interactive geospatial application by following the five steps as given below :

1)Scan the map into TIF

2)Import into DIVA-GIS

3)Create shapefiles for Placemarks, Pipelines or Roads or River and Some Area like Ponds, lakes, stadiums, etc.

4)Create Attribute Tables linked to the shapefiles

5)Export the tables and the shapefiles into an AppConverter to produce interactive Geospatial Application

The entire procedure or the steps of digitization of maps by DIVA-GIS is explained in the presentation that can be accessed by clicking in the link. or view the video about the same presentation.

If any terms like shapefile or attribute table are not clear or known to you then see this presentation.
